Hi Robert

In my experience a D. Marginata will forgive you for leeting it get too cold as long as you a) put it in a warm light position indoors to recover and b) be patient. I had the same problem a few years ago and the same plant is now the picture of magnificence.

I hear you. When I first started studying garden design, I was taught that even a well-designed garden needs slight redesigning every 5 or so years because the plants and trees grow. And it takes at least that long to make great soil, sometimes even a decade.

But it is rewarding from day 1, which is cool.

I think you are correct. I have hauled many bags of soil, peat moss and compost (Erthfood) to my mounded up areas in my beds. I think it has paid off with much better growing areas.

The method i use works great and is NOT harmful to pets, use a mortar and pestle to grind jalepeno pepper, mix one part to 10 parts canola oil, spray the perimeter of your yard or high "offence" areas the smell will deter most but those that do trod on your lawn will lick their oily feet to find a spice all to unpleasant "but harmless" to dogs. Hope this helps i used to step in my neighbours dog almost twice a week as he like to go on the pavement leading up to my car

Slug Pellets, they have a scent added to stop pets eating them.
but I did like the bacon grease idea so the dogs eat their own shit.
P.S. if the dogs do eat the slug pellets they might not be back.

PS I didn't think I'd have much luck, but I have 6 dz. seedlings and counting. Way more than needed to experiment with grafting. From wild stock...thanks all you roadside core tossers. One of you grew a fantastic tasting apple tree I'm going to try grafting.
