Around the World in 80 Garden Blogs

First it was Jules Verne, through the eyes of Phineas Fogg. Then Monty Don ventured out into the unknown world exploring 80 gardens in a trip that was certain to amuse and entertain us all. Now, it's my turn - all from the comfort of my laptop, comfy chair and solitude of my own home.

My adventure was to visit 80 garden blogs in a round the world trip. Unfortunately, it looked a little more like a dog's hind leg than a complete circumnavigation of the globe, but nonetheless, the outcome was the same. Visiting 80 gardeners and their regular journals was a feat unknown to the garden blogging world...until now.

Australian & New Zealand Garden Blogs

I headed off from my local haunt stopping in on some of the local capital cities - where possible - and paused to enjoy and reflect. The first stage was Australia and New Zealand.

1. Exterior Visions (Claire) Perth, WA
2. Totally Inept Balcony Gardener (Prue) Melbourne, VICTORIA
3. Our Cosmic Garden (Cosmic) Wynyard, TASMANIA
4. A Growing Delight (Alice) Canberra, ACT
5. Chookie's Back Yard (Chookie) Sydney, NSW
6. Gustoso (Littlem) Brisbane, QUEENSLAND
7. Love Plant Life (loveplantlife) Raumati, NEW ZEALAND

South & Central American Garden Blogs

Then it was off to the Americas. Starting with South and Central America the sun felt hotter and the plants grew quicker and far more vivid.

8. Colorindo a paisagem (Elena) Sao Paulo, BRAZIL
9. A Caribbean Garden (Nicole) Port of Spain, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
10. My Rustic Bajan Garden (islandgal246) St. Lucy, BARBADOS
11. A Neotropical Savanna (Mary) Chiriqui, PANAMA
12. Las Frutas de Paraíso (Liz) Diriamba, NICARAGUA

United States Garden Blogs

Before heading off to the US mainland it was almost obligatory to call in on Hawaii. Certainly there were no disappointments from whoa-to-go traversing North America from bottom to top, and back again as I tried to drop in on a few bloggers that we may not have been familiar with.

13. Lava to Lilikoi (Lucy) Hawaii, USA
14. Geranium Blog (Dawn) Las Vegas - Nevada, USA
15. The Germinatrix (Ivette) Los Angeles - California, USA

Canadian Garden Blogs

I know that if I included Canada with the US I'd be court-martialled and shot ...by the Canadians, I presume. So, leaving Maine it was a quick hop, step and a jump into the land known for it's Mounties, Moose and Maple Syrup.

36. Gardening in my Jammies (Alison) Halifax - Nova Scotia, CANADA
37. Hypertufa Gardening Projects (Jamie) Moncton - New Brunswick, CANADA
38. Recreating Eden (Mary) Montreal - Quebec, CANADA

42. Calgary Garden Coach (Janice) Calgary - Alberta, CANADA
43. Flowers and Weeds (Garden Lily) Vancouver - BC, CANADA

Asian Garden Blogs

Figuring it was getting a little cold again, I headed south into warmer waters and more tropical and temperate gardens. The Asians know how to grow some amazingly beautiful plants so the detour south was certainly worth the effort.

European Garden Blogs

Europe was the next stop. Heading slowly up north through Austria, Poland and Estonia before pulling a u-turn via Sweden and Finland seemed the logical way to go. Then I meandered through France, Italy and Spain before hitting the "Mother" country to check our Ireland, Wales and the remainder of the UK.

What an excellent idea for a blog post! And thanks so much for including me.

Thanks Anna and my pleasure.

This is a seriously fun idea, and thanks for stopping by. I love seeing the different seasons around the world in people's blogs, even if global warming is mixing them up a little!

What a great idea! We are a bit dismayed that you stopped in LA, but not in the SF Bay area, but it's still a great idea! I dream of a bike ride across country where I can visit the gardens I read about...

Stuart, Blotanical has really grown a lot thanks to you. I really appreciate the hard work you have put in. I just love this community and network of gardeners. Having started active blogging since I joined Blotanical, it is like I 'grew up' in Blotanical as far as blogging is concerned. It was fun here. You did a great job!

Lastly, I hope you don't mind me saying this. Singapore and Malaysia are 2 different countries.

Sad you didnt pop in but what a challenge - will have to visit these blogs as I havent heard of a lot of them.

Prue - my pleasure. Ta for the cuppa!

Town Mouse and Helen - my apologies. I really wanted to highlight a few different blogs that most of us don't normally gravitate to.

Autumn Belle - my bad. Geography was never a strong point and I'm sure I've probably got a few more wrong too. Ta for the heads-up though.

that was really an adventurous trip virtually though. shows every bit of hard work you have put in. keep up the good work.

What a perfect way to showcase a lot of blogs. I wish I had time to read them all. There are so many terrific ones. Thanks for including mine on your list ~ you are welcome to stop in person anytime too!

Tx for stopping in Porterville! There are some familiar names here, LizNica, and some that I am off to visit now.

Tx for stopping in Porterville!

Hey, thanks for visting Carrickfergus, hope you enjoyed you stay. Lovely to be mentioned, I think I'm still the only blotanical blogger in Northen Ireland! xx

Thanks for visiting... It seems I should continue translating my blogposts in English.

Stuart, thanks for visiting me in Japan. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful job of running Blotanical. Don't know how you manage to find the time. Keep up the good work. Arigato gozaimasu.

Thanks for stopping in Italy..
