The news isn’t looking good for further production of the quintessential garden statue – the Pink Flamingo. Due to ever increasing prices for plastic resin the production of these iconic has come to a halt.
Don Featherstone (these people always have apt surnames!) is the creator of Pink Flamingos which he invented in 1957. He’s hoping that another manufacturer will take these on and be able to continue production viably.
“They think the pink flamingos could be extinct, and they think I will be extinct soon, too,” (Featherstone) said. “It is sad that it is happening, but it may not be dead yet.”
Apparently two companies, one based in the US and the other in Canada, are looking at the possibility of buying the molds off Featherstone but nothing’s set in concrete yet (pardon the pun!)
It’s a sad day for Featherstone but I think it was actually sadder the day people started putting these in their gardens!

I know they are horrifyingly tacky but everytime I see them I cant help myself, I want one! I have never succumbed to this forbidden desire, I am left simply with the deep hidden shame of WANTING to.
