We drove past this house a couple of times while we commuted from our accomodation to various tourist attractions and each time it transfixed my inspiration.

I was mezmerized at the thought of what this gardener must have had to deal with in order to create the garden they had achieved. The large granite rocks that protrude sporadically throughout the garden are usually supported by smaller rocks submerged beneath the surface. So every shovel action would have produced a metallic ting as the edge flinched sideways.

Let me complete the picture a little more for your full appreciation. The obvious challenge is the rocks. You may have already noticed the incline of the hill but what you can’t see is that this property faces the coast. Winter, salty winds; poor soil; and the occasional gust to remove your favourite annuals would be, in my books, a little disheartening.

If there were an award for the most persevering gardener I think the owner of this house would have to claim it.
