Gardening tips, gardening info and heaps of ideas to help gardeners of all experience get more out of their hobby and out of their gardens.

The race for Sunflower Supremacy continues and after a few early glitches - the two young ones saw sprouts before anyone else - all the seeds are up and growing now. It's been great watching the kids remind themselves to water and pamper their pots, eagerly waiting for some sign of life to emerge.
While things are going well now, we're all about to face the biggest challenge in 5 days time. We're going on holidays for about 2 weeks, camping throughout the south of our state.
And while the weather's still working itself out, we're praying for rain here (for our sunflowers) and dry weather for our camping. Is that possible? I certainly hope so, because these kids are praying up a storm!

Rain and dry weather? Hmmmm... how about a few showers very early in the morning, not enough to cause a tent to leak but enough to keep the sunflowers going. Or, take the sunflowers with you!

I know. I'm asking a bit much!
I like your idea about taking the sunflowers though I think Deb would allow me to take my computer long before she'd accept taking the plants.

I bought a dwarf sunflower at the local home depot. It looked very healthy, but after a week every flower has drooped and dried up. I have kept the pot (I live in an apartment...they are on the patio)very well watered and I catch full sun most of the day. What am I doing wrong?

You sunflower problem sounds very similar to what we suffered when we had our sunflower competition. As these are large plants they need a lot of room for their roots and can quickly outgrow their containers.
I would bet that this is probably the 'root' of your problem.
