Adding a Garden Water Feature

garden path
I've touched on this subject through a couple of other posts here and here, so there's no point covering this information again. However, it is worth considering why you would have a water feature and where is the best location to place one.

Firstly, many contemporary gardens have a water feature as part of their design. The reasons are simple; aesthetics and another sensory dimension. Water features look great and can be a real focal point for your garden. They draw your eye to a specific point and soothe you with their calm, yet dynamic motion. The added benefit of including a relaxing sound and rhythm in your garden is probably the main reason for their popularity.

If you are going to install a water feature then you might want to consider a couple of points. Firstly, how will you make the feature secure when children are playing in your garden? And secondly, how will you maintain your water feature? If it's located in a shady area then leaf debris may clog your pump and create problems with bacteria and algae.

The location of your water feature is also a major consideration. If you plan to keep fish then a shady protected area is essential. If you have children, you might want to make it more visible from certain vantage points like the kitchen or an outdoor area.

Wherever you decide to build a water feature find a location that will allow you to enjoy it the most.

We have planned many times a water feature with lightly flowing water. However I want a solar pump to move the water. I find it really difficult to find the info and the item other than tiny pumps available at nurseries. I know these pumps have been around for years.
