Arbor #2 is almost finished

Arbor
The second arbor (of three) is almost complete. I still need to finish touching up some of the paint and attaching the wire trellis for the rose to climb on. The rose, by the way, is one that we bought 2 years ago from a rose nursery in the hills surrounding Perth. The climbing rose is called Cornelia which is a floribunda pink with an incredible scent.

We're scouring the salvage yards at the moment looking for a rustic gate to also attach to the arbor and trying to agree on which letterbox to add as well. I'll keep you updated as we get closer to completing it.

That looks great. Hope you find the right gate.

We have found a gate that we're interested in but not totally committed to. It's fairly rustic and requires a little bit of TLC to bring it up to scratch so we're still looking. If we can't find anything better we'll settle for it but try and get the price reduced from the A$40 they're asking for at the moment.

hi could i have the size of the trellis please i would like to try to make it myself thank you lisa

The dimensions were fairly rough due to the recycled timber being used and your situation will depend on many variables but I shall endeavour to give you the ones that matter. The roof pitch was 32 degrees making the top angle 58. The height we tried to achieve was a total of 2m to the top of the supporting cross members. This will depend on how you plan to support your posts - if they're going to be cemented in the ground then they will need to be at least 2.6m long (longer is better) but if held in stirrups then they will be shorter than 2m.

If I were to build this out of new timber I would use;

(4) 90x90mm posts (to the required height)
(2) 35x100mm cross members (to the depth of your arbor area)
(4) 45x100mm x 1.2m gable frame (also depends on the width of the
(2) 45x70mm x 700mm gable support

This is the basic structure and it will depend on how you determine the roof to be. If it is to be made of wood as this one is then use

19x45mm cross members and the same size to act as an inner frame running along the inside of the gable frames.
